Coming Soon: The American History Road Trip

A new narrative podcast connecting heritage tourism and storytelling

The American History Road Trip is a narrative, storytelling podcast that explores American history through the places where it happened — and invites listeners to experience those places for themselves.

Each episode begins with a local story — a historic site, museum, building, or collection — and expands outward to connect that story to the broader American experience.

What Each Episode Includes

Every episode is designed as both a compelling piece of storytelling and a driver of heritage tourism.

A Featured Historic Site or Story

At the center of each episode is a specific place — a museum, landmark, or community — brought to life through narrative storytelling, interviews, and historical research.

Narrative Audio Production

Episodes are produced as narrative, documentary-style stories, weaving together multiple voices, archival material, and on-site recording into a cohesive and engaging experience.

This is more than an interview — it is entertaining audio scholarship designed to capture attention and hold it.

Travel Integration

Each episode connects directly to real-world travel:

  • Where to visit

  • What to experience

  • How the story connects to the place today

Listeners are encouraged to turn the story into their own road trip.

Expanded Digital Content

Each episode is supported by a companion blog post featuring:

  • On-site photography and video

  • Additional historical context

  • Featured stops visited during production

  • Recommendations for other cultural and heritage attractions in the area

Community and Partner Integration

Episodes highlight the work of local museums, historical societies, tourism organizations, and community experts — helping connect their work to new and broader audiences.

In Production: Milton House, Milton, Wisconsin

The pilot episode is currently in production in partnership with the Janesville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

This episode centers on the Milton House, the only Underground Railroad site in Wisconsin open to the public. Through its preserved structure — including a hidden tunnel used to shelter freedom seekers — the story offers a powerful entry point into the broader history of resistance and the Underground Railroad in the Midwest.

In addition to the featured site, production in the Janesville area includes visits to Good Works Brewing Company and the North Side Brewing Excavation, connecting the region’s historical story to its present-day cultural landscape.

The companion blog will also highlight additional sites and attractions in the area, encouraging visitors to build a fuller, multi-stop experience.

Looking Ahead

Season One is currently in development, with additional destinations and partnerships to be announced.

This blog will serve as a hub for episode companion content, travel recommendations, and expanded storytelling tied to each location.
